W.E.Nightingale (1794 - 1874)

  • William Edward Nightingale (nee Shore)
  • father of Florence Nightingale
  • changed name from Shore to Nightingale after inheritance of great-uncle Peter Nightingale’s estate
  • Purchased the Manor of Pleasley in 1823/24
  • leased mineral rights at Pleasley Manor to Stanton Iron Works in Sept. 1872
  • died Jan 10th 1874 after slipping on stairs whilst going to fetch his watch
  • (see also Sir Harry Verney (1801 - 1894) who married Frances Parthenon Nightingale)

John Gilbert Crompton  (1819 -1913)
