Access stairs down to the South engine-house drum pit
Location of the original doorway in the end-wall of the South engine-house drum pit. This was closed off when an external boiler flue-way was installed across the end-wall a few years after the engine-house was rebuilt. The brickwork is actually the side wall of the flue-way
Access stairs to South winder 1922 Burn’s brake fulcrum platforms. The original stairs to these were located at the ends of each platform near to the engine-house end wall but were built-up in the 1950s to provide foundations for a suspended-caliper brake.
